AutoTest
FiBLU AutoTest brings the principal certification measurements into a single automated workflow. Once the Job Settings and reference have been established, the technician initiates the test from UniBLU and receives an automatic certification result against the selected limit.
A complete dual-wavelength certification test takes approximately 5 seconds in loopback mode or 6 seconds in dual-ended mode, helping engineers move efficiently through high-volume certification projects while retaining standards-based results and documentation.
Bidirectional
FiBLU supports bi-directional fiber testing, measuring the link from both directions rather than relying on a measurement taken from one end alone. This is important because connector geometry, fiber alignment and other link characteristics can produce different loss values depending on the direction of measurement.
Bi-directional testing therefore provides a stronger basis for certification and can reveal higher loss that a single-direction test might mask. FiBLU supports both loopback and dual-ended configurations, allowing the test method to be matched to project requirements.
Reference Setting
FiBLU provides guided reference-setting workflows for both loopback and dual-ended testing. Establishing the reference defines the baseline optical power level against which insertion loss is calculated during subsequent certification tests.
UniBLU supports 1-, 2- or 3-jumper reference methods and displays the measured reference power together with the reference date and time. A new reference can be established whenever test cords or significant test conditions change, helping maintain measurement integrity throughout the project.
Loss Measurement
FiBLU measures optical insertion loss across the fiber link and uses the result as a core component of Tier 1 certification. The platform provides insertion-loss accuracy of ≤0.2 dB with measurement repeatability of ≤0.05 dB, supporting accurate and consistent field measurements.
Measurements are performed at both operating wavelengths for the selected fiber type, providing a more complete picture of link performance and allowing results to be compared directly with the applicable certification limit.
Power Meter
FiBLU can also operate as a standalone optical power meter through the UniBLU app. The function reads the received optical intensity and allows technicians to perform manual optical power measurements independently of a full certification AutoTest.
The current received power can also be established as a reference, allowing relative loss measurements to be made in dB. This provides a useful diagnostic and verification capability when engineers need to investigate optical levels outside the normal automated certification workflow.
Light Source
FiBLU includes an integrated optical light source that can be controlled directly through UniBLU. Engineers can select the required wavelength and generate a continuous optical signal for manual loss measurement, verification and troubleshooting tasks.
The FiBLU-SM version provides laser sources at 1310 nm and 1550 nm, while FiBLU-MM operates at 850 nm and 1300 nm. This makes the same FiBLU hardware useful both for automated certification and for conventional light-source/power-meter measurements.
VFL
FiBLU incorporates a built-in 650 nm Visual Fault Locator (VFL), giving technicians a quick visual method of tracing fiber and identifying faults on shorter links. Visible red light can help locate breaks, severe bends and connector-related problems without requiring a separate VFL instrument.
The VFL uses a 2.5 mm universal connector adapter and operates in 1.5 Hz pulsed mode, making it a convenient complementary troubleshooting capability alongside FiBLU’s quantitative loss measurement and certification functions.
