FiBLU

App-Based Fiber Network Tester & Certifier

FiBLU is a new generation app‑based, fiber certification solution that shifts intelligence from fixed hardware to a smartphone app. FiBLU fundamentally changes how fiber testing is done—making it faster, more collaborative and dramatically more cost‑effective over the life of the network.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is FiBLU, and what is UniBLU?

FiBLU is the test hardware: a Tier 1 optical loss test set that performs the optical measurement. UniBLU is the mobile app that controls it, holds your projects and jobs, applies the test limits and generates the reports. The two work as a single instrument – the precision optics stay in the FiBLU handset while the interface, workflow and reporting run on your phone. UniBLU is available for iOS and Android.

Traditional certification tools put everything in one dedicated device: fixed hardware, manual workflows, and reporting that becomes an administrative task after the job is finished. FiBLU separates the two. The optical measurement stays in purpose-built hardware, while everything around it – project setup, test limits, results and reporting – runs in software that updates continuously.

That has two practical effects. Results reach the people who need them while the technician is still on site rather than at the end of the week. And when standards or workflows change, new capability arrives through app updates rather than replacement hardware.

FiBLU certifies against ISO/IEC 14763-3 and TIA-568. The applicable test limit is selected as part of the job configuration, and UniBLU evaluates measured loss against that limit and returns a pass or fail with margin values – so technicians are not left interpreting raw readings. Application-specific loss budgets are also supported.

Yes. Simplex links are tested using the Light Source and Power Meter functions with a Main and a Remote unit. Connect the fiber under test to the Remote’s Tx port and the other end to the Main’s Rx port, then start Auto mode on both units – the Remote provides the light source and the Main takes the measurement.

No. Testing does not depend on connectivity. UniBLU runs tests and stores results locally on the phone while offline, so certification continues in basements, risers, tunnels and new-build sites with no coverage. Projects and jobs can exist locally on the device, and the app clearly distinguishes locally stored data from cloud-synchronised data. Internet is required only for cloud synchronisation, firmware updates and account management.

So that your test data stays yours. Results are written into your own organisation’s cloud account rather than a server operated by AEM Networks, which keeps ownership and data governance with you and removes any hosting or maintenance cost. You also inherit the reliability, backup and security controls those platforms already provide.

Storage is not a constraint. Each fiber test result is up to 5 KB, so a few gigabytes holds hundreds of thousands of results.

One setup note. When the Owner signs in with a company account, your IT administrator may need to approve the app before it can reach company storage, and some security policies will slow or refuse that. To avoid the delay, we recommend asking IT to create one or more cloud accounts used only for FiBLU testing.

Yes to both questions. Projects, jobs, users and results synchronise through your cloud account, so when an Operator saves a cloud-based test the result becomes visible to the rest of the team without waiting for an end-of-day transfer.

Access is role-based. Owners and Managers create projects, configure jobs, assign people and monitor progress. Operators perform testing. Viewers review results without being able to change them.

UniBLU shows project status on the main screen: total work, completed work, remaining work, pass and fail counts, and completion progress. A supervisor can see where a job stands without opening individual results. More detailed statistical analysis is available both in the app and in the generated reports, which helps identify trends, monitor quality and act on large volumes of test data rather than reading it link by link.

Yes. FiBLU certification results can be imported into TestDataPro, AEM Network’s results management software, and combined with copper results from TestPro or NSA into a single report. A mixed installation is then documented as one body of evidence rather than as separate fiber and copper deliverables, covering the test results, the equipment used, the test configuration and application compatibility.
